Deal With It

Parents and students are crying because Bishop Martino (Scranton Diocese) made a wise decision the other day; he merged all the Catholic High Schools in Luzerne County, and he also merged many elementary schools. This decision was a no brainier because all 4 high schools had week enrollments. But one Catholic High School is enough to service Luzerne County. Much bigger Bucks County has only two high schools Archbishop Wood and Conwell-Egan. There is no reason for the 3 non Hazleton schools not to combine, because they are within a 10 minute drive of each other. The good people of Hazleton have some right to be upset, but Bishop Martino and Bishop Cullen of the Allentown Diocese have agreed to allow the people of lower Luzerne County to attend Catholic High Schools in the neighboring diocese. The problem with the people whining about the decision is that they care more about their particular school, than Catholic Education in general. This move by Bishop Martino will not only preserve Catholic Education in NEPA, but the schools will not only survive, but thrive.
