Reclaiming the Republican Party

Sometimes a change of scenery is a change for the better. The GOP nomination of John McCain for 44th President of the United States and Sarah Palin as his choice for Vice President is not only historical for the party but also for the nation. This monumental occasion not only changes the face of American politics but also changes the face and message of the Republican party - for the better. John McCain may not the most innately conservative Republican but he's chosen a refreshing and inspiring new conservative to help lead the party into the future.

Sarah Palin is not quite the major "Bush Administration" player the Democrats would like her to be. She's also not the MAN they'd hoped she'd be!

The Democrats, aside from overt socialism, have become a party whose interests and slogans have been defined as "not George Bush" since he won in 2000. Their major players include has been, never will be's, and Obama, who's got a "speech he have in 2004" and a failed campaign ending this November 4th.

Sarah Palin will clearly challenge the Democrats by using their usual tactics against them. Obama commented on her, "it's still more of the same"...he's got nothing else he could say - they're so used to bashing Bush they seem to have forgotten that he's not seeking a third term and only have anti-Bush rhetoric in their playbook. Not to mention, she's now the real female face in politics - overnight! What happened to that...what's her name who Obama snubbed?

The election of 2008 was almost foolproof before, but now I'm calling it a landslide. In name alone, Barack Hussein Obama sounds like the FBI 3 most wanted list, but he's an inexperienced liberal trying to make America a socialist country. His choice of Biden for VP is clearly an attempt to add credibility and experience to his ticket but by snubbing Hillary, he not only lost the election, but he opened the door for McCain to garner even more votes from women and those lost specifically to Hillary. She would have brought what Barack needs most - votes, but instead he couldn't have someone who'd cast a shadow on him. People would credit her - not him for a victory. But that's a lost possibility.

Palin now has the opportunity to change the Republican party for the better. Not only by changing the face of the party in a literal sense, but also by making the GOP the party who put a women in the White House. Palin brings back a traditional conservative American point of view and refreshes the party.

I've made arguments over time that Democrats refuse to admit defeat ever comes from anything other than tom foolery. It comes from American people rejecting their message. When will they get it?

The 2008 election will be about change. Change for the better in the Republican party - change that we can believe in. Hope is an important mantra in Obama's campaign...it's all he has left.

Much of the work of making Obama's case for him was done by the Bush administration, which chose to start a war in Iraq that has been a pointless drain on our national resources. Worse, rather than pursuing a fiscally responsible path to fund that war our President chose to significantly increase our national debt instead. Add in the current economic mess and one had an almost perfect storm of reasons why the Republicans do not look like responsible stewards of our nation's affairs. All that Barack Obama needed to do was to look and act in an entirely different manner and for no photos to surface that showed him being hugged or kissed on the forehead by President Bush. Sadly, for Senator McCain, there are numerous photos of him such politically-compromising embraces. A picture is often better than a thousand words, isn't it?

Given what a mess the Bush administration has left the country in, one has to ask, "Who would want this job?"

You make some valid points. I've always said that there's nothing "Christian" about the Christian Coalition. It's basically a front for intolerance. No offense to Texas, but it's not the most tolerant state. Wasn't it within a decade that two Texans killed a black man by hitching him up to their truck and dragging him to his death? There have been shouts of "Off with his head!" "Kill him!" "Bomb Obama!" etc. at recent McCain/Palin lynch mob rallies. My friends, that is CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER. I hope the FBI is doing its job. If John W. McCain were the maverick that he claims to be, he would not dismuss such terrorist behavior as "patriotic." No, my friends, it is jingoism and not free speech does not protect such clear and present danger. George W. Bush cheated in Y2K and Y2K4. It's a no brainer there to say that he has secured a Democratic majority for at least 2-4 years. No McCane. No Palin. No George W. Bush-episode 3. Rock the vote and make me a prophet!

Love those comments from foreigners.

Obama talks a good game, but McCain has actually proven he is an agent for change. His record clearly shows he is a moderate "old school" Republican at odds - sometimes painfully - with the right wing of his party. McCain's choice for VP was a compromise to appease that block, and if not for Palin, Huckabee likely would have been the other compromise choice. Given Palin's treatment by the media thus far, I can just imagine how Huckabee's overtly religious POV would have been handled by the leering press. McCain chose someone with executive experience. It can be debated how effective Palin has been in office, been it can't be denied that she's the only one of the group with executive experience. That counts for something...it certainly did for Carter, Reagan, Clinton and "W".

Obama, on the other hand, ignored the sizable centrist wing of the Democrat party, and chose a liberal VP from the Senate. That doesn't look like a move from someone willing to reach across the political aisle and compromise. That's a signal that an Obama presidency will mean more partisan gridlock is on the way. So much for "change".

Back to those foreign commentators, here. All of you have given me the impression that your support of Obama is as superficial as your derision of Bush. Some of us Americans actually vote with our heads...not our hearts. Obama talks pretty. He's a lawyer. But we live in a nation already stiffled by too many lawyers, and too many laws, rules and regulations. I will never expect a lawyer to change that, no matter what he promises in an election.

My vote is for McCain.

It's a little bit funny that you should say that. The problem with Biden is that he talks too much. Other than that, most of America believes that Biden would make an OUTSTANDING vice president. He has experience. He's intelligence. He's somewhat of a historian and knows the ins and outs of how the government works. Sarah Palin? She was mayor of some rednek Alaskan town. She knows zilch about national politics. Heck, she doesn't even know the "job description" of the VP. It's really no wonder that she's adored by rightwing-extremist fundamentalists. Those same people worship, "uh" George W. Bush. Maybe you despise Biden because he has a blue-collar background. I guarantee that Obama/Biden will do more to help people who actually work for a living, to put food on their table. Or as George W. Bush put it, "Put food on your family."

McCain voted 90% with Bush Jr. He's no maverick. He's no centrist. He's not even the old-school Republican you're referring to. Technically, "old school" would be something along the lines of Lincoln. McCain is no Lincoln.

You talk about Americans voting with their heads? Yeah, right. Voters for George W. Bush have the biggest case of buyer's remorse in American history. Only 25% of ardent rightwing-extremist Republicans still support him. Your "don't mess with Texas" attitude is antiquated. Due to globalization, it's more important than ever for America to have solid relationships with allies. George W. Bush has made a mockery of the presidency and has disgraced America throughout the world. As I mentioned before, it's time to restore dignity, honor, and INTELLIGENCE to the White House.

In regards to Obama being too "liberal," that's a farse. He's had to move to the center, to appeal to Middle Class voters. You don't talk about tax cuts when you're in left field. Obama has worked with Lugar and other Republicans, and you can expect 1-2 Republicans on his cabinet.

The thing about McCain is that I had more respect for him before he ran for president. I considered him somewhat of a conservative-centrist, who, as you mentioned, tended to deviate from the rightwing-extremist wing of the Republican party. That said, a maverick does not hire Karl Rove's divisive protege to run his campaign. A maverick does not vote with Bush Jr. 90% of the time. A maverick does not flipflop time and time again. You mentioned your disdain for lawyers. I got news for you - many Senators are lawyers. And even those who aren't lawyers, have somewhat of a lawyer's mentality. If you don't think McCain has flipflopped and contracted himself, all you need to do is check out some you tube clips. Yes, there is sometimes lawyers engage in overkill and such. That said, lawyers have achieved some outstanding results in America, such as the cases against the corrupt, Republican-leaning tobacco companies, etc. The reason why Senators typically aren't elected to the White House is that they eventually become stale. McCain, Kerry, Dole, etc. The list goes on and on.

However, everything has an end, and a new beginning is a must. World conflict is looming; economic crisis is affecting most of us. Obama is a promise of the New America, A new hope ,and a symbol of new world where diplomacy is priority instead of losing another lives in wars.

I can see that most of us here in NYC tend to support Obama.

How can people think that the "trickle-down" theory works? Obama is calling for a direct to the person increase of wealth, where as McCain wants to cut taxes for huge corporations, and hope that some of the billions dollars "trickle-down" to us. Here's a news flash: they won't. Heck, if someone basically handed you an extra billion on top of what you were making would you give your employees raises or buy an island (heres a hint, you wouldn't give your employees raises). Both are "socialist" if you think about it (try not to hurt yourself Republicans), but Obama's could almost be considered "active socialism" where as McCain's (and Bush's) could be considered "passive socialism." Both sides are arguing for the same thing, it is just that the Democrats are going to make it happen, rather than "hope it trickles-down" like Republicans.

Dr. Don Key,

I have but two words on lawyers and the federal government: tax code.

Over the past 30 years our nation's business has degenerated into a sea of lawyered up lobbyists who represent client first, nation second. If one were to believe that the incessant tax code manipulation was strictly the fault of greedy Republicans, then one would be ignoring 8 years of a Democrat lawyer in the White House. If one were to believe that the Republicans are responsible for "getting us into Iraq", then one would be ignoring a Congressional declaration - led by key members of the Democrat Party during the Clinton administration - that Saddam had WMD and was a threat to world peace. One would also be ignoring that many of said Democrats voted in favor of invading Iraq. If Obama's failure to vote for that war represents "a change we need", then I'd say it's a typically cynical change, not the kind of hopeful change he's been campaigning on.

Of the two most important issues to me - conservation of the environment and campaign finance reform - McCain has been a leader and swam against the tide of his own party. His service to our country is commendable. I can overlook the crap he's had to eat to get elected. Unlike you, I'm not putting my hands on my hips and shaking my finger at him. I know he has more substance to him than Obama.

"We are not permitted to know who is best at being President or Governor or Senator, but whose image is best in touching and soothing the deep reaches of our discontent. We look at the television screen and ask, in the same voracious way as the Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?” We are inclined to vote for those whose personality, family life, and style, as imaged on the screen, give back a better answer than the Queen received. As Xenophanes remarked twenty-five centuries ago, men always make their gods in their own image. But to this, television politics has added a new wrinkle: Those who would be gods refashion themselves into images the viewers would have them be."

Vote for a REAL change:
Jerry White, Pres.
Bill Van Auken, V.Pres.
Socialist Equality Party

===========================
As much as I would love to have more than two legitimate options, socialism is NOT the answer. Just look at Europe for a perfect example of how socialism can drag on the well-being and economy of a country. "According to official figures, around 12 percent of the working population of the European Union (EU) is unemployed."

Compare that to the U.S. which has recently risen to over 5% after staying below that for decades. Socialism is the root of the problem in Europe. It creates a disincentive for business to grow. And businesses are the ones that provide the jobs.

It's a shame that so many people have been brainwashed by Obama, especially the young, for they will be the ones who will pay for their mistake in voting for him. Socialism has never, never ever worked in this world. It leads to more poverty and unemployment, more government control and less freedom for the people. The Czech Republic is an example of the good vs evil. Under communism it was smothered; go there now as I did and see how after getting away from Soviet control this country has trived: people are working, small businesses have cropped up, people are happy, autos are everywhere, the country is clean, houses are in great shape. France got themselves in trouble by going socialist, workers wanting more and more until their economy and unemployment went to hell. The new leader is attempting to fix things (he's conservative). American has harmed herself by listening to Obama, the same way Germany harmed itself in the 30s and 40s. We did not learn from history.

Jake, you are incorrect. The decline of our economy was not in large part due to Bush and the Republicans. It was mostly because of the housing and mortgage companies and the forced push to start providing loans [including loans in which income, assets, and jobs were falsified] to people who could never afford the mortgages or the loans. Do your reseach before you blame Bush and the Republicans. At least they aren't trying to steal from hard working Americans and hand it down to the "refuse to work" welfare class!

I think it's funny that democrats are exclaiming their joy for America and the rest of the world with an Obama win - especially since Obama has said many times that he wants to renegotiate NAFTA and take America on a more isolationist / protectionist path.

Bottom line: Bush didn't work out because he was located on the far right of the political spectrum. So what do we want to do? Elect a guy from the far left of the political spectrum. Yeah, that's rational. The best presidents are located in the middle of the spectrum (they share the same views of most of Americans). And McCain is that guy. If Hillary had been on the ticket, she would have been in the "most middle."

On the other hand, Obama should win, the White House has been bought and paid for in full by a margin of 2:1.

No Liberal or Conservative is perfect or always right. The key to keeping both philosophies in check is to limit their time in power. The republican/Conservatives have run their course. Seriously. Its time for the pendulum to swing back. The public, and the world, will be better served with a new direction. And, then, when the power drunk democratic/Liberals have become as silly as the Bush crew, America will once again change partners.

I know that this doesn't appeal to those that have indulged in the red or blue koolaid but it is the practical way for us to keep them somewhat in check.

So today I enthusiastically vote for Obama and tomorrow I prepare to criticize him for his excesses.

America has definitely become an ignorant self absorbed country that will sell their freedoms and their beliefs for next to nothing.

For all of you that think you are not going to be taxed by an Obama presidency, think again. Look at the official IRS website: http://www.irs.gov/

Obama has stated numerous times different amounts for citizens that will be taxed the most. He has stood firm on his comment of only the top 5% of Americans. When you visit the above site, see for yourself what amount constitutes the top 5%. It is not $250,000, it is not $200,000, it is a mere $150,000 per household income that will be considered rich and in the top 5%.

So when you go to cast your vote today, dont believe anything this man has said. We dont know anything about him except that he is EXTREMELY liberal. If you think the economy is bad wait until this man possibly gets into office.

I don’t know a true “right-winged” Republican who would be caught dead on stage with Lieberman. McCain’s immigration stance has been left of the aisle, his stance on torture and Guantanamo Bay, the list goes on and on …

However, we cannot say the same about Obama. EVERY vote he has cast was from the left. Even his own party members during the democratic debate thought Obama’s voting record was absurd and lacked conviction.

McCain has over 21 years of Senatorial experience that we can review and judge on how he will act in a given situation. With Obama we have only two years, an he voted “present” the majority of the time. ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.

But your right, we should just cast our unrealistic expectations on Obama and vote for him anyways.

The world is laughing at us? Could somebody please look at an encyclopedia, or look at the CIA fact book. FACT:
-We make up 10% of the world economy.
-Unemployment is at 4.6%,
-Our average income is 46,000$ a year.
-Most powerful economy and military on earth.

Our economy got to where it is by having limited involvement in the private sector. Its called free market, and having a deregulated economy gives greater prosperity.(Examples, Hong Kong, Singapore). Much of the financial crises has been attributed to people living beyond there means. Frugality is what our country needs.
Sure the government can take some blame, but not all of it is their fault, they don't control everything in our economy, for a reason. Whats hurt our economy was 9/11, dependence on foreign energy and the wars to prevent radical jihad, which we urgently need to tie up in spite of their high price tag, because our peoples enemies wont stop trying to destroy us.
Do many american's really think that other countries laugh at us now? Do we need to change our image? Lets see where Japan and Germany would be today if we didn't commit to rebuilding their nations after WWII. Thats what our hope is for Iraq someday. Where would most of Europe be today if they didn't share a common currency the EURO? Do you really want to go back to the frank, or deutsch-mark? China doesn't have cival rights, and the rest of asia, africa and latin america have many social, government and/or economical instability. The world doesn't like the USA because of jealousy. They only help us, especially at war, if it effects them too. Just like we were before we were attacked in both world wars. They don't like that we have so much to do with everyones business, even though they technically need our business. (Econmics, military, humanitarian aid).
Just remember, our country still is the world LEADER, and its not by a small margin. Lets keep our country a strong REPUBLIC not a democracy, a monarchy or socialist.

"In Western Europe, governments face the difficult political problem of channeling resources away from welfare programs in order to increase investment and strengthen incentives to seek employment."

"Let's not raise taxes ever", but complain about the shoddiness of our schools. If we invested more in our own kids and less on a 5-year old war with no end in sight, we'd be better off for generations to come.

How can you be for the death penalty and against abortion? As a moderate Democrat, I am all for the death penalty but also support a woman's right to make a choice about her own body. If your argument about abortion is a RELIGIOUS one, then your point of view doesn't belong in the LAWS of our country...

Bush is a fool and everyone knows it - looking back, if we had to have a Republican in office, I wish we would have had McCain for 8 years instead of Bush, because there would be lots less to fix now... the best campaign plan McCain could have run was to distance himself as much as possible from Bush and his policies, since the majority of Americans sees those policies as failures.

"Once in a while a reset button does a good job. resetting distribution of wealth may reenerigize the rich to work harder. Go for Obama!!"

Mulu,

Redistributed the wealth will indeed help the rich to work harder... and the poor to work less and blow their money.
-People go from the bottom up when they have suffecient oppourtunity sure, but most of it comes from spending habits and investments.

-People at the bottom stay at the bottom when they continually make poor choices and investments. This is the land of opportunity, giving handouts wont help our economy.

Frances welfare has them at 12% unemployment.

Republicans see that the last 8 years sucked. McCAIN IS NOT BUSH! He has an entire 22 year career in the Senate to prove that fact. Check it out.

You wake up. You want to vote for a guy who has been in office for ONLY 2 YEARS.

And to "it's broke, let's fix it" - McCain is not against abortion. He feels it is up to the States to make the decision for themselves. Similar to his stance on gay marriage. In other words, if you want an abortion - just travel to another state exercise your body's right. He is a "states rights" kind of guy.

Have the democrats even been paying attention this election????

I can no longer belong to a party that depends on stupid people to achieve and hold political power. I am not sure if Obama will win (American style racism is very powerful) but I can no longer be part of those who depend on and encourage racists.

WhoCares, above, who opined "this is America; no one cares what people in other countries think" is exactly the kind of person who will be served by what is left of the GOP when educated conservatives who are capable of critical thinking exit the GOP. The over and under should be at least the number killed under the McCain Rove policy of looking for WMDs where none exist. 100,000 civilians and 100,000 armed opponents.

1. You said the same thing about Vietnam and that was nonsense too.

Let's see, two inconclusive wars, tripling the national debt, a deep recession, nationlizing our banks, ruining our image overseas, throwing out the constitution, decreasing home values, $4/gal gas. Dick Cheney?!? a true facist if there ever was one. What can Obama do to possibly top this list of Republican accomplishments?
Oh, and the false arguement about distribution of wealth, Richard Fuld, the CEO of Lehman Bros. made $240 million the last 2 years while his company failed (good job Rick), the employees lost their jobs and savings and millions of us lost big on our 401Ks. That is the Bush redistribution of wealth.

The difference? Well, sometimes it is because the hard-workers are working smart and way, way, way motivated by money. Sometimes its because they inherited quite a lot and aren't stupid with it. Sometimes its because they took risks and got lucky.

How did that strategy work for us the last 8 years under the far right?

Abortion - Roe v. Wade has become the law of the land. I seriously doubt that a president can overturn Roe v. Wade. "An inexcusable gaffe" would be Obama not choosing Hillary as his VP. If he did that, McCain doesn't choose Palin. Guaranteed.

McCain's record as Senator is widely viewed by most political observers as moderate. Kennedy was a "hawk" and so was Truman, but nobody called them "conservative". McCain is closer to them than either "W" or Reagan. Besides, the social conservatives in the Republican party cannot stand McCain. If nothing else, read the vitriol the leading conservatives were spewing at him before he became the front runner.

It's time to take the Obama blinders off and pay attention to McCain's record...not the rhetoric.

Everyone - Yes, I seriously believe McCain is a centrist. His stance on immigration (left), his stance on torture and Guantanamo Bay, etc. etc. all on the left of the aisle. His stance on international policies lean a little right. McCain dedicated several years after Vietnam studying the follies of the U.S. to figure out what went wrong in that war. And for this reason, I think he is most qualified to get us OUT OF Iraq safely. He is an expert in foreign policies.

Obama has changed his stance on Iran only after McCain chastised him during the town hall meeting about the dangers of meeting w/o precondition. Obama now is in-line with McCain's view on meeting with world dictators.

Furthermore, McCain is so centrist that at one point the Democratic Party spent quite a bit of time on McCain trying to convince him to be a "switch over" candidate in the Senate. They would not have invested time or spent "political chips" on McCain if they had not felt that McCain leaned a little to the left. McCain chose to stick with the Republican Party and then had to "kiss a few butts" to get right with the GOP again (unfortunately, Bush's rear end being one of them). You can't blame McCain for having to play ball with his party sometimes so he could be the presidential nominee for the GOP.

Obama has had to play a similar game. It's all in the game of politics.

The point should be that a voting record dating back 22 years should not be erased because the GOP's Bush screwed up. McCain has shown who he is over and over again. And he is a man of integrity who likes to reach across the aisle.

Yes, the bank SNAFU and bailout is, when you get down to it, a form of socialism. But it needed to be done. A loss of $700 billion in savings/investment plugged into a Keynesian model would predict a HUGE catastrophic decline in Y* (GDP).

And if I remember correctly, McCain AND Obama backed the bailout.

What people do not think is fair is giving "tax credits" to individuals who do NOT PAY INCOME taxes. That is welfare and income re-distribution. And income re-distribution has been PROVEN time after time throughout history to be a substandard economic model.

However, cutting taxes for a small portion of the population, mailing out "incentive" checks while at war and increasing the government spending by 40 percent is a recipe for disaster. Any tax cut only helps the economy when it is coming out of a recession. Surely they taught this in Economics 101.
Any change in the tax code is income redistribution. Teddy Roosevelt was for progressive tax.
Bush-Cheney-Rove wanted to turn the US into a banana republic and nearly succeeded.
P.s. - I have read Obama's economic plan and nowhere does it suggest ging tax breaks to those not paying taxes.

Mark - I have read Obama's economic plan and it DOES suggest "tax credits" for the working poor. They DO NOT PAY FEDERAL INCOME taxes. It would essentially be a $500 rebate. I'm not against the progressive tax code that has been in practice for most of the past century. This is not the issue of the argument.

By the way, McCain does NOT want to increase spending by 40 percent. McCain is the guy that said that he was to FREEZE all governmental spending at its current levels. It was "the other guy" that has the big spending plans for America. Remember that debate?

Furthermore, Obama's tax cut no longer is capped at $250K. He has under-the-radar changed his tax policy to include families making $200K now. Biden says it will most likely be $150K, governor of N.M. says $120K. This is no longer the "rich", but encroaching on the upper-middle class.

Look to Jermaine 12:41 p.m. post. Reference: Obama's informercial - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJvkRFKGgGw. This ad CLEARLY states and puts in writing families $200K.

Point of the above marks - He is raising taxes during a recession. And they didn't teach tax cuts only help when coming out of a recession in Eco 101.

There is no credible military threat to our well being yet he acheived his facist goal on a bigger, though not more effective, military.
By your reasoning, tax cuts automatically result in increased government revenue. If that theory is true, than if we cut the tax rate to zero and we should have a budget surplus!
Additionally, Obama will have to live with BushCheneyRove budget for 2009. He will have some effect on the 2009 budget but compromises will be needed. mark - There you democrats getting all confused again ... the election is NOT between Bush and Obama this year. We are talking about McCain and Obama.

Bush is out of the picture now. He's a lame duck president. GONE!!

My reasoning is more with the Laffer curve. There is a "sweet spot" to hit and I don't think that during a recession is the best time to raise taxes ON ANYONE.

Sorry, but I don't even know who Sean Hennity is.

Rick, I want Richard Fuld, CEO of Lehman Bros. to give back some of that $240 million he made in the last 2 years, fradulantly. And the financial institutions that Herr Bush bailed out, he wants their executives to keep their bonuses, no doubt for doing such a good job. So my tax money is going to millionaires - sounds like redistribution to me.

for real, I agree that raising taxes in a recession is a bad idea. Obama reiterated that last week. Again he will not affect spending or taxes in 2009.
And really, supply side economics have been discredited.
According to Nobel prize laureate James Tobin, "The 'Laffer Curve' idea that tax cuts would actually increase revenues turned out to deserve the ridicule with which sober economists had greeted it in 1981."

Mark - You just outed yourself as to how little of economic policy you know. You just quoted wikipedia.

Why should we vote for Obama if he's going to take a year off like you suggested to do anything to impact the economy and make it better? hmmmm....

for real, supply side economics don't work. And I quoted James Tobin.
The 2009 budget is set. Obama will not have a real impact on the budget until 2010. We should be out of recession by then. Regardless, the tax codes and runaway spending of BushCheneyRove are not fair. The distribution of wealth has skewed more sharply toward the top 1 percent of the population than in any 8 year period in our history. Again, economic history has shown this to be unstable.
Read "The Economic History of the World" sometime. It is quite good.

I am familiar with the work. We are just going to have to agree to disagree. I am not a proponent of "supply side" economics, or "demand side" economics.

I studied under the principles of mostly Keynes, Okun, and other great economists' theories.

Like most things in life, the best answer is located in the middle of both extremes. McCain.

for real, I like your well reasoned arguements. I have enjoyed our discourse. Have a good evening and let's hope whoever wins is a pragmatic as they promise.
I will close with my favorite Keynes quote. "The long run is overated. In the long run we are all dead." An economist with a dry wit.

I voted for change. I voted for the likes of someone who probably would know what is an impossible dream, but I'm not sleeping...

Waking up is what you have to do after a dream, any dream.

If we -- each and all -- don't take hard looks at the way we impact the world, and if we don't make important changes in our lives, all we do is become sleep walkers, or fodder, bait and consumers for politicians.

Neither cynical or hopeless, I've been mal- and mis-informed, wanting more for we, the people, of this earth to live and let live.

Mr. Obama, please review your campaign rhetoric in your first 100 days.

Please practice peace, (you know what that means) and please be active and meet kindness with a world that knows the good "beyond all understanding."

Thank you.
